Thailand Tops Travel Poll News Feed

The Land of Smiles has recently been voted Southeast Asia's top holiday destination by users of London-based travel provider, Travelzoo. Over 3.7 million UK Travelzoo subscribers took part in the survey, and they named Thailand as their top destination in Southeast Asia, ahead of Cambodia and Vietnam.

Travelzoo promotes more than 2000 international travel companies from across the world. The site has 27 million subscribers worldwide, and is often used by tourists to find travel deals for exotic breaks. The aim of the poll, which asked participants which iconic destinations would be on their travel bucket lists, was to assess the popularity of various long and short-haul destinations. Scoring an impressive 36 percent, Thailand was voted the most desirable place to visit in Southeast Asia. Vietnam followed with a score of 25 percent, while Cambodia scored eight percent.

The news was welcomed by Thawatchai Arunyik, the Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand who said the poll acknowledges Thailand as one of the ultimate global destinations. "It is an exotic place that travellers from around the world regard as being a must-see place at some point in their lives, he said. By coming to Thailand, travellers know they will experience not only beaches and mountains, but also a unique and lively culture, ancient temples, exciting nightlife, a distinctive and fiery cuisine, and some of the friendliest people in the world. The Kingdom offers once in a lifetime experiences to travellers and visitors of every age, he added.

According to Travelzoo's poll, long-haul destinations remain popular with travellers from Europe, with China claiming the top spot in Asia and Australia scoring top in the Asia-Pacific region. In the travel landmarks category, the US' Grand Canyon, Peru's Machu Picchu, China's Great Wall and India's Taj Mahal scored top.

For travellers that have already made the long journey to Thailand, the news of the Kingdom's success in the survey will come as no surprise. Over the past thirty years, Thailand's tourism infrastructure has progressed to become one of the best in the world, and the country is now home to a world class accommodation and hospitality services. The exotic tropical climate and fascinating culture have also made it a favourite with visitors, many of whom return every year.
